Gov’t Unveils Plans for Three New Mosques

The government has unveiled plans to construct three new mosques in strategic locations across the Maldives, including Alifushi in Raa Atoll, Addu City, and Hulhumale’ Phase II.

Minister of Islamic Affairs, Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed, disclosed that these new mosques will incorporate sustainable practices by allowing for the installation of solar panels to generate renewable energy.

Furthermore, the mosques will boast full air-conditioning facilities for the comfort of worshippers. According to the Ministry of Islamic Affairs, the mosques will have capacities of 300, 500, and 700 individuals respectively.

Dr. Shaheem announced that construction is scheduled to commence in June. Riyan Private Limited has been tasked with developing the Bill of Quantities (BoQ) and the design for the mosques, with the involvement of individual designers.

In Addu City, the mosque project in Hulhudhoo was initiated by Mohamed Solih and is expected to be completed within a timeframe of 720 days. Similarly, Abdul Rahman Moose has been contracted to complete the mosque in Alifushi within 732 days. Additionally, Mohamed Yoosuf has been entrusted with the development of the mosque in Hulhumale’.
