Individuals at the Guraidhoo Centre often face challenges in mobility and adhering to structured routines. Consequently, initiatives to facilitate rehabilitation and impart new skills have been initiated within the centre. A collaboration with the Polytechnic saw the delivery of a cake-making course tailored for female participants, with 10 individuals already completing the programme.

Moreover, programmes encompassing physical exercises and social gatherings are being conducted to foster holistic well-being and fortify social bonds. Future endeavours are poised to include an array of collaborative programmes with private entities and institutions, such as tree planting initiatives, sewing workshops, and arts and crafts sessions.

Central to these skills programmes is the core objective of ensuring each individual under the ministry’s care is afforded dignity, contentment, and the prospect of independent living.

Presently, the Guraidhoo Home for People with Special Needs accommodates a total of 220 individuals, comprising 133 men, 87 women, 15 bedridden persons, and 183 individuals with mental health conditions. Of this cohort, 31 individuals are aged 65 or above. The Ministry of Social and Family Development remains committed to bolstering the centre’s administration in a sustainable manner.

Acknowledging the right of every individual under state custody to lead a fulfilling life within their familial environment, the Ministry appeals to all members of society to extend kindness and support to those in need.
