The Health Ministry has delivered ambulances to islands where existing vehicles were in disrepair.
In a ceremony at the ministry, Minister Abdulla Nazim handed over the ambulances to representatives from 56 islands in need. Senior officials from health centres and hospitals across the islands received the vehicles.
The project, awarded last year to MPL, involved identifying islands where ambulance services had been halted and transporting ambulances to those locations through contractor financing. The initiative was valued at MVR 65.3 million.
The ministry confirmed that the ambulances were dispatched to the islands on three separate occasions this month. The vehicles are intended for hospitals and health centres in atolls that have experienced ambulance disuse and deterioration.
Additionally, the ministry stated that 31 islands in need of ambulances, along with 10 paramedic ambulances within the Male’ region, are expected to begin service within the year.
