Heavy Rainfall Submerges 144 Houses in Male’ City

Heavy rainfall in Male’ city yesterday has led to the flooding of 144 houses, prompting the relocation of residents from 8 households to temporary shelters.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) revealed that Male’ city and four other islands, namely Th. Guraidhoo, Th. Dhiyamigili, L. Maamendhoo, and Dh. Kudahuvadhoo, experienced flooding due to the persistent downpour.

Male’ city, being the most severely affected, reported the majority of damages. NDMA revealed that out of the 144 households seeking assistance, 132 have already received aid. Additionally, 91 households were provided with sand sacks to mitigate the impact of flooding, while residents from 8 households have been temporarily relocated to shelters.

The continuous rainfall since early morning on Friday has resulted in flooded streets in Male’ city. The Meteorological Office issued a yellow alert spanning from Kaafu to Thaa Atoll, along with a white alert covering HDh to Dhaalu Atoll. The situation remains under close monitoring as authorities work to address the aftermath of the heavy rainfall and provide necessary support to affected residents.
