Land handovers to recipients under the Binveriyaa Scheme have commenced in Hulhumalé Phase III, marking a key step in the government’s housing and land distribution programme.
A total of 11 plots were handed over on the first day, with authorities planning to continue the process on a daily basis until all allocations are completed.
Land in Hulhumalé Phase III had been allocated prior to the completion of dredging works. Earlier attempts at reclamation had faced delays and limited progress. Following a change in administration, dredging operations were assigned to Maldives Airports Company Limited, resulting in the successful reclamation of 63 hectares. Land reclamation for the area was completed on 25 January.
Under the Binveriyaa Scheme, a total of 698 plots are to be allocated from Phase III. The distribution includes 181 plots of 1,650 square feet, 242 plots of 2,050 square feet, 132 plots of 2,450 square feet, 62 plots of 2,850 square feet, 41 plots of 3,250 square feet, 16 plots of 3,650 square feet, and 24 plots of 4,000 square feet.
Plot allocations for beneficiaries were determined through a lottery held on 20 December. According to the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure, the government aims to complete all land handovers by 15 April. To date, 337 recipients have already received registration for their allocated plots.
