The People’s Majlis has approved Ahmed Munawwar as the new Governor of the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA).
This decision follows a vetting process by the Public Accounts Committee.
Committee Chair and Maamigili MP Gasim Ibrahim stated that Munawwar was thoroughly questioned by all committee members and received a score of 94.43%.
“Based on his extensive experience in finance, his previous tenure as a high-profile minister, and his past work with the MMA, it was clear to us that no one more qualified has been nominated to lead MMA to this day,” Gasim remarked while presenting the committee’s report to the parliament.
Munawwar’s appointment was supported by 78 out of the 85 members present. The final confirmation of his position now rests with President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.
Last week, President Muizzu removed Ali Hashim from his role as Governor following advice from the Majlis.
Ahmed Munawwar has previously served as the Minister of Finance and currently holds the position of Advisor to the Minister of Finance.
