Majority of Zakat Fund Allocated for Medical Treatment, Reports Maldives Zakat House

The latest figures disclosed by The Maldives Zakat House for March included a total disbursement of MVR 878,682.88.

The Zakat House directed substantial resources towards managing healthcare treatments for the impoverished and underprivileged, extending a lifeline to 59 needy individuals.

A closer look at the allocation of funds reveals a focused approach towards addressing critical healthcare issues. Notably, 28% of the aid was dedicated to cancer treatment. Additionally, significant portions were allocated to other essential medical procedures, including brain surgeries, liver transplants, and heart operations, reflecting a comprehensive approach to healthcare provision.

Beyond medical interventions, the institution also addressed assistance for individuals facing exceptional circumstances, with MVR 17,207.65 allocated to address specific needs. Furthermore, the institution extended support to Ibn Sabeel or travellers requiring aid to complete their journey.

Education also emerged as a focal point, with scholarships and stipends disbursed to deserving individuals. Moreover, administrative expenses, including staff remuneration, were accounted for, ensuring the smooth functioning of the institution’s operations.

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs recently sanctioned USD 100,000 from the Zakat Fund to assist those in need in Palestine and Gaza, reaffirming the institution’s role in fostering international solidarity and humanitarian support.
