“I commend the Embassy for its important role in deepening friendship and mutual understanding, bringing our communities closer, and fostering strong partnerships with Maldivian institutions across areas of common interest,” the Minister stated on her official social media following the reception.

The anniversary comes as both nations begin preparations to celebrate 60 years of formal diplomatic relations in 2027. Japan officially established diplomatic ties with the Maldives in 1967 and subsequently opened its resident embassy in Malé in 2016 to facilitate direct bilateral engagement and oversee ongoing development cooperation projects.
