Maldives Delegation Engages with Key Chinese Firms on Future Projects

Maldivian ministers have engaged in development discussions with several Chinese companies during their ongoing visit to China.

The delegation, consisting of Minister of Foreign Affairs Moosa Zameer, Minister of Finance Dr Mohamed Shafeeg, and Minister of Construction and Infrastructure Dr Abdulla Muththalib, is visiting China from 20 to 24 July at the invitation of Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

During their visit, the ministers met with Chen Lai, Managing Director of China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC), and toured the company’s exhibition centre. Discussions centred on significant development projects and the future of bilateral relations.

The delegation also held talks with Wang Bo, Chairman of China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC). Key topics included the Maldives’ social housing and renewable energy projects, with a focus on the Rasmale’ and Gulhi Falhu initiatives.

Further meetings included discussions with Wang Tongzhou, Chairman of China Communications Construction Company (CCCC). The conversation addressed the company’s involvement in the Maldives’ social and economic development, notably the Sinamale’ bridge project.

Additionally, the ministers met Dr Yan Shengjun, Chairman of Tianying Inc. (CNTY), to discuss waste management and infrastructure projects in the Maldives, emphasising progress in sustainable development.

The Maldivian ministers, accompanied by a delegation of senior government officials, are also scheduled to meet with high-ranking Chinese government officials during their visit.
