Maldives Launches National Telethon in Solidarity with Palestine
The Maldives has initiated a national telethon titled “Falastheenaa Eku Dhivehin”, meaning “Maldivians in solidarity with Palestine”, aiming to gather financial support for Palestinians.
The telethon commenced at 08:00 am this morning and is scheduled to run until midnight.
President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu inaugurated the telethon, with cabinet ministers and heads of state-owned enterprises also participating in the initiative.

Organised by the Public Service Media (PSM) in collaboration with local media, the telethon was launched at the behest of President Muizzu.
At the inauguration ceremony this morning, Zeena Zahir, managing director of PSM, assured complete transparency in fund management. She announced the appointment of Crowe Maldives LLP, an audit firm, to independently oversee the funds raised during the telethon, ensuring they reach the intended recipients.
Emphasising the significance of nationwide participation, Zeena expressed optimism in achieving a substantial amount of funds through the telethon.
As part of the telethon, donation boxes have been stationed at 13 locations across the Maldivian capital, Male’ City. All donation boxes, except for the one located at the courtyard of Television Maldives (TVM), will be closed at dusk.
Additionally, contributions can be made through online bank transfers using the following account details: MVR: 7730000655865, USD: 7730000655866.
This telethon follows a similar initiative undertaken by Maldivian TV channels in October last year to raise funds for Palestinians.
Israel’s ongoing genocide in Gaza, which commenced on October 7, 2023, has resulted in the loss of over 37,000 Palestinian lives, including numerous women and children. The genocide has left much of the Palestinian territory devastated, displacing a vast majority of its residents and leading to widespread malnutrition.
