The Maldives Zakat House has reported that a total of MVR 483.79 million in Zakat Al-Mal, also known as property zakat, was collected over the past five years, with the highest annual collection recorded in 2025.
Statistics showed that more than MVR 90 million in property zakat was collected each year between 2021 and 2025. The amount collected in 2021 stood at MVR 91.39 million, followed by MVR 92.70 million in 2022 and MVR 90.21 million in 2023. Collections increased to MVR 102.28 million in 2024 and reached a peak of MVR 107.21 million in 2025.
The Zakat House said the figure recorded in 2025 represents the highest annual property zakat collection since the system was introduced.
In addition, the Zakat House announced an increase in the nisab, or minimum threshold for property zakat, on 21 December 2025. The nisab was raised to MVR 19,527.90 from MVR 11,191.95 set five months earlier, marking an increase of MVR 8,335.95. This is the highest nisab ever established in the Maldives.
The zakat threshold is calculated based on the market price of silver, and changes in silver prices directly influence the amount payable.
The law requiring the payment of property zakat came into force this year.
