Maldivian Youth Shine at 7th Western Asian Youth Chess Championship

The 7th Western Asian Youth Chess Championship 2024 concluded successfully in Sri Lanka, spanning from July 7th to 16th. 

Among the participants, the Maldives fielded competitors across various age categories.In the Under-8 Open category, Ismail Aakin Hassan and Yoosuf Liham Ahmed represented the Maldives. Their efforts earned them the title of first runner-up, bringing home two medals.

The Under-12 Open category saw participation from Mohamed Looth Ismail and Mohamed Yooaan Yaksan. They achieved the position of second runner-up, also winning two medals.

The Under-14 Open category had Maldivian representatives Muqsith Mohamed Mahfooz and Mohamed Aydhin Munthazim. They managed to secure the position of second runner-up, earning two medals as well.

In the Under-14 Girls category, Aminath Sara Haleem and Eana Abdulla Hassan represented the Maldives. They also achieved the position of second runner-up, adding two more medals to the tally.

These results underscore the growing talent and competitiveness of Maldivian youth chess players within the Western Asian region.

The event saw participation from ten countries, with a total of 330 players competing in various age categories.
