Malé City Council has initiated repairs on roads affected by drainage issues that cause flooding after heavy rain.

On Monday, the Council began removing paving blocks from Izzuhdheen Magu, a road notorious for slow drainage, which poses significant challenges for pedestrians, particularly school children.

Mayor Adam Azim visited the work site yesterday to oversee the progress of the repair efforts.

The project is being undertaken with support from the Ministry of Cities, Local Government, and Public Works.

Malé roads have long suffered from persistent drainage and sewage leak problems, with successive governments struggling to resolve the issue.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu previously stated that a grant aid of USD 130 million, secured during a visit to China in December, would be allocated to a road development project in Male.
