Man Arrested in Haa Dhaalu Atoll Over Large-Scale Drug Trafficking

A man has been arrested in connection with a large-scale drug trafficking operation in Hanimaadhoo, Haa Dhaalu Atoll.

Police conducted the operation on last Wednesday following a tip-off regarding the trafficking of drugs in the area. During the operation, the suspect was taken into custody.

The arrested individual has been identified as Ahmed Azmi, 40, a resident of H.Dh. Hanimaadhoo. Authorities recovered six rubber packets containing suspected drugs weighing a total of 8.2 grams from him.

Azmi was presented before the court for a decision on his remand, and police confirmed that the case remains under investigation.

Drug use continues to be a significant social issue in the Maldives, with 1,546 cases reported so far this year.
