A man who sustained severe burn injuries in a fire incident in AA. Rasdhoo has died while undergoing treatment in India.
Ali Samin, 31, was an employee at the Rasdhoo branch of the Bank of Maldives. He had suffered burns over 78 percent of his body and was initially treated in the Intensive Care Unit of Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) in Malé. On 7 April, he was transferred to India for further medical care.
While in India, Samin underwent surgery, but his condition did not show significant improvement. Medical assessments had indicated a low chance of survival due to the severity of the injuries. After a brief period of stabilisation, his family had arranged for his transfer abroad for additional treatment.
Samin’s former spouse, Aishath Rifqa, also 31, died on 31 March from injuries sustained in the same incident. She had suffered burns covering 83 percent of her body.
The fire, which did not cause structural damage to the room where it occurred, took place while other individuals were present in the house. No additional injuries were reported. The couple’s five-year-old child was unharmed.
Authorities have not yet disclosed further information about the cause of the fire.
