MET Issues Nationwide White Alert for Surge Waves Until 3 PM

Maldives Meteorological Services (MET) has issued a nationwide white alert for surge waves until 3:00 PM today.
In a post on X, MET said surge waves are expected across the country between 10:30 am and 3:00 PM.

Several areas of Malé City were flooded yesterday after strong waves washed seawater onto parts of the capital. The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) subsequently carried out drainage operations, focusing on the Carnival area.
MET’s rainfall data showed that Fuvahmulah City recorded the highest rainfall in the 24 hours to 8:00 AM today, with 46.5 mm. Hulhumeedhoo, in Addu City, recorded 16.6 mm, followed by Baa Atoll, Goidhoo, with 12.9 mm; Alifu Alifu Atoll, Thoddoo, with 11.1 mm; and Raa Atoll, Ifuru, with 11 mm.
As of 5:00 AM, the MET forecasts showers and thunderstorms in isolated areas until 6:00 PM today.
Winds are expected to be west/northwesterly in the northern atolls and south/southwesterly elsewhere, at 5-15 miles per hour. Winds may gust up to 35 miles per hour during showers.
The sea is expected to remain slight, becoming moderate during showers, with wave heights of 2-5 feet.
The tide forecast for today shows high tides of up to 2.6 feet in the northern region, 2.3 feet in the central region and 2.6 feet in the southern region. Tomorrow, high tides are forecast to reach 2.6 feet in the north, 2.5 feet in the central region and 2.8 feet in the south.
