The Maldives Food and Drug Authority has urged consumers to exercise caution following reports that poison was discovered in a baby food bottle in Austria.

In a public notice, the authority stated that German company HiPP has been instructed to withdraw its HiPP-branded baby food products from the Austrian market after authorities suspected possible contamination with rat poison. Police in Austria have launched an investigation into the incident.

The MFDA noted that while the product is not registered in the Maldives, there remains a risk that it could be brought into the country through personal imports.

As a precaution, the authority has advised the public not to import, sell, or use any such products in the Maldives.

For further information, the MFDA can be contacted on 3034213 or 7603204.
