Minister Adam Shareef to Attend Funeral of Late Iranian President and Foreign Minister
Minister of Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Adam Shareef Umar, has departed to attend the funeral of the late President of Iran, Dr Ebrahim Raisi, and the late Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, along with their entourage.
The President’s Office announced that Minister Shareef will represent the Maldives at the funeral ceremonies as the Special Envoy of the President. He will pay his last respects to the late Iranian officials and participate in the funeral proceedings.
The tragic incident occurred when a helicopter carrying President Raisi crashed on its return journey from an official visit to the border with Azerbaijan in Iran’s northwest. The delegation had been inaugurating a dam project at the time.
In addition to President Raisi, the crash claimed the lives of Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, Governor of Iran’s East Azerbaijan Province Malik Rahmati, and an imam from the city of Tabriz, Mohammad Ali Ale-Hashem. The pilot, co-pilot, crew chief, and a bodyguard also perished in the accident.
In response to this tragedy, the Maldivian government has declared that the national flag will be flown at half-mast for three days in honour of Iran’s late President, Dr Ebrahim Raisi.
