Finance Minister Moosa Zameer has been appointed as chairman of a committee of ministers established by President Mohamed Muizzu to mitigate the impact of the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel and the United States.

The committee, formed in late February, was previously chaired by former Foreign Minister Abdulla Khaleel. Khaleel, Ghassan, Thoriq and Haidar resigned on Tuesday and are no longer part of the committee. Ihusaan and Shaheem have also been removed.

The reconstituted committee now comprises Zameer alongside Foreign Minister Iruthisham Adam, Economic Minister Mohamed Saeed, Fisheries Minister Ahmed Shiyam and Tourism and Civil Aviation Minister Mohamed Ameen.

The changes follow a cabinet reshuffle in which 10 ministers, including Khaleel, Ghassan, Thoriq and Haidar, resigned. Others who stepped down include Health Minister Abdullah Nazim Ibrahim, Social and Family Minister Aishath Shiham, Minister of Languages Adam Naseer Ibrahim, Agriculture Minister Mariyam Mariya, Youth Minister Ibrahim Waheed and Cities and Local Government Minister Adam Shareef Umar.

The President’s Office stated that the resignations were intended to facilitate changes aimed at aligning the administration with public expectations. Following the reshuffle, the number of ministries has been reduced from 20 to 15, with new appointments including Culture Minister Heena Waleed, Environment Minister Ali Shareef, Defence Minister Hassan Rasheed and Health Minister Geela Ali.
