The Ministry of Islamic Affairs and Ooredoo Maldives PLC have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen cooperation in repairing and developing mosques across the Maldives under Ooredoo’s “Masjiduna Project”.

The signing ceremony took place at the Ooredoo Maldives head office in Hulhumalé, according to the ministry. The agreement was signed by Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed on behalf of the ministry, and by Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Shadi Kawarmi on behalf of Ooredoo Maldives.

Under the understanding, the government and Ooredoo will jointly coordinate efforts to renovate mosques, upgrade facilities, and carry out related developmental works across the country.

Ooredoo Maldives launched the “Masjiduna Project” as part of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives to support local communities, focusing on preserving structures of religious and social significance throughout the Maldives.

Ahead of the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, the project will prioritize urgent maintenance and repair works required at mosques nationwide, the ministry stated.

However, further financial details and specific island allocations under the initiative have not yet been disclosed.
