The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has initiated the opening of the window for submitting proposals from entities interested in facilitating Umrah trips for Maldivian citizens.

An official announcement from the Ministry outlined that the period for submitting Umrah proposals will commence from the upcoming Sunday (May 12) and extend until the 16th of May.

In adherence to the regulations set forth by the Ministry of Islamic Affairs for Umrah pilgrimages, eligible companies must fulfil the prerequisites outlined in the policy introduced last year.

Access to the proposal book required for permit applications to organize Umrah trips is available through the Ministry’s official website.

Companies meeting the eligibility criteria from the submitted applications are slated to receive permits valid for a period of two years. However, a strict prohibition has been imposed on collecting advanced payments from pilgrims without an official permit for trip bookings.

Instances of unauthorised entities attempting to arrange Umrah trips surface annually, and this year has been no exception, resulting in various challenges.

The Ministry has implemented a recurring opportunity for permit requests to facilitate Umrah bookings at intervals throughout the year. Such an opportunity was extended twice last year to accommodate interested parties.
