In a video statement shared across social media platforms, Minister Waheed underscored his commitment to fostering an independent media landscape. He reiterated the government’s pledge to provide financial assistance to the media sector since assuming office yet acknowledged the absence of allocated funds in the current budgetary framework.

“In our forthcoming budget deliberations, we will actively engage with media stakeholders to delineate the criteria and principles governing the disbursement of financial aid to the media,” stated Minister Waheed.

Highlighting the significance of dialogue with key industry figures, Minister Waheed affirmed plans to convene discussions with prominent editorial heads and television network executives.

“Our administration remains steadfast in its commitment to nurturing a reputable and independent media sphere. To fortify this commitment, we are devising a mechanism to allocate state funds towards supporting media initiatives,” articulated Minister Waheed.

Furthermore, Minister Waheed articulated the government’s broader objective of elevating the status of the media fraternity and eradicating practices of coercion. He reiterated the government’s aspiration to empower individuals within the media landscape, fostering self-sufficiency and autonomy.
