In accordance with President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s promise, the Ministry has waived 20% of the monthly payments for housing units developed in Male and various islands. The Ministry has instructed owners of these units to start paying rent regularly from January 1 this year.

Many people are still not paying their dues, and the Ministry urges them to pay their monthly dues regularly.

The Ministry is currently investigating several illegal activities related to social housing units. These activities include failure to make regular monthly payments, using the flat for purposes other than those specified, making illegal alterations to the premises, and subletting the flat.

Action will be taken against those who are not acting in accordance with the agreement.

There have been previous concerns over the high prices of renting out Hiyaa flats allocated under the Hiyaa Project in Hulhumale Phase II. There have also been instances of illegal alterations to the units.
