Missing Maldivian Crew Confirmed Dead from Capsized Cargo Vessel

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has confirmed that the missing Maldivian crew member from the cargo vessel Balma 6, which capsized earlier today en route to Dhonmaagaa in Kaafu Atoll, has been found dead.

Earlier, the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) reported that four crew members were on board Balma 6 when it capsized. Two were rescued by a nearby vessel, while the Maldivian crew member, now confirmed dead, and a foreign crew member went missing.

The police have not yet released any details regarding the Maldivian who passed away.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing, with MPS and MNDF personnel actively combing the area.Authorities have issued a safety advisory for travellers and seafarers in the Vaadhoo Sea area near Taj Exotica Resort, where the vessel capsized. The MNDF Coast Guard warned that debris from Balma 6 is expected to drift westward, posing hazards to marine traffic.
