The Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) has officially opened its call for research proposals and extended abstracts for the upcoming MMA Research Conference 2025, scheduled to take place on 16 November 2025.
This year’s conference will focus on strengthening resilience and stability in the Maldivian economy, with an emphasis on reimagining policy frameworks to address climate risks, technological disruption, and global uncertainty, the MMA announced today.
The Authority has identified several key thematic areas for potential submissions. These include external shocks and economic reliance, labour markets and human capital, Islamic finance, financial inclusion and sector development, monetary policy and exchange rate dynamics, as well as sustainable growth and housing.

The MMA encourages joint proposals and remains open to collaborative research opportunities. Submissions are welcomed from a broad and diverse group, including local and international researchers and academics, staff from central banks and public institutions, practitioners from multilateral organisations, think tanks, and the private sector, as well as graduate students undertaking policy-relevant research.
Each submission must include the title of the proposed paper and a 500–1,000-word write-up outlining the key research question, methodology, and expected contribution. Authors must also include their affiliation and contact details.
All proposals must be written in English and submitted in PDF or Word format. Submissions should be emailed to research@mma.gov.mv no later than 04 August 2025. Authors of selected proposals will be notified by 18 August 2025.
For selected proposals, full papers must be submitted ahead of the conference for review and scheduling. These papers should not exceed 8,000 words (excluding references and appendices), and must be submitted in Word or PDF format, using a 12-point font and double spacing throughout.
Papers must include an abstract of 150 to 250 words, followed by clearly structured sections covering the introduction, methodology, results, and policy implications. Authors may use any recognised academic citation style—such as APA, Chicago, or Harvard—provided it is applied consistently.
The final paper submission deadline is 09 October 2025. Authors must email their papers to research@mma.gov.mv with the subject line: “[MMA Research Conference 2025 – Final Paper Submission]”.
All papers will be reviewed by the MMA’s Research and Policy teams, and selected papers may be featured on the official MMA Research Conference website.
