The Maldives Ports Limited has delivered ambulances to hospitals and health centres on 56 islands across the atolls.
The company was awarded the contract last year to procure and distribute the vehicles under a programme initiated by the Ministry of Health to strengthen emergency medical services nationwide.
According to MPL, deliveries commenced on 17 January and were completed on 14 February. In addition to handing over the vehicles, the company’s mechanical team provided technical guidance to hospital and health centre staff on the operation, repair and maintenance of the ambulances.
The government has also announced plans to dispatch additional ambulances to 31 more islands during the year, alongside 10 paramedic ambulances designated for use in Malé City and other urban areas.
Expanding sustainable ambulance services across all inhabited islands remains a key objective of the current administration as part of efforts to enhance nationwide access to emergency healthcare.
