Maldivian Red Crescent (MRC) hosted a six-day workshop last week focused on “Enhanced Vulnerability and Capacity Assessment (EVCA) Training of Trainers.”
The workshop saw the participation of 30 individuals from across the country, including volunteers from various Maldivian Red Crescent offices in Addu City, Kulhudhuffushi City, Malé City, Fuvamulah, Velidhoo, and Gadhdhoo, as well as staff from the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and the Maldivian Red Crescent.
The sessions were led by Arnauld Raulin, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies’ (IFRC) Regional DRR Coordinator.
MRC said the primary objective of the workshop was to equip trainers with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to effectively conduct participatory risk assessments in their communities.
As part of the project, supported by USAID BHA, the Maldivian Red Crescent will collaborate with NDMA to implement this assessment in 10 target islands.
The assessments utilise a participatory process that involves various community stakeholders in assessing and analysing the risks they face to foster long-term resilience. This approach aims to develop sustainable, inclusive, and long-term action plans to combat hazards and mitigate risks in different island communities.
The project’s main goal is to enhance and strengthen risk-based resilience planning at both island and city levels. It seeks to bolster locally-led preparedness and mitigation actions through systematic capacity building of existing resources and tools within island communities in the Maldives.
