Muizzu Affirms Maldives’ Autonomy over Borders, Including Maritime Zones

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu declared that the Maldives will maintain autonomous control over all its territories, including maritime, aerial, and terrestrial domains.
He articulated this in his speech during the engagement with residents of Veymandoo on his official visit to Kolhumadulu Atoll.
Muizzu announced that the Maldives will assume sole regulation of the Exclusive Economic Zones shortly. Planning for this endeavour is currently underway, and Muizzu assured that execution will proceed promptly without any delay.
Muizzu reiterated the Government’s consistent efforts towards retrieving the nation’s lost maritime territories since assuming office. He expressed his unwavering commitment to this objective and promised to continue working on it until it is accomplished.
Muizzu announced plans to enhance the Maldives’ capabilities for conducting underwater surveys, emphasising that Maldivians aspire to conduct scanning and mapping activities within their territory. He shed light on the Government’s diligent efforts to equip the armed forces with the necessary capabilities.
Muizzu emphasised his commitment to fulfilling all promises and assured that they would be honoured as pledged. He also reiterated his commitment to enhancing road infrastructure in Veymandoo and other major islands.
He also emphasised the importance of prioritising land reclamation initiatives for Veymandoo. Muizzu further highlighted plans to augment educational facilities and elevate the quality of healthcare services on the island.
In his speech, Muizzu announced that Eid-al-Fitr celebrations will be held per Islamic tradition. Arrangements will be made in all cities and atoll-governed islands, including lighting and Takbir recitations, similar to recent festivities in Malé City. The celebrations will continue in Veymandoo during the upcoming Eid-al-Fitr.
