President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has unveiled plans for ‘Isravvehinge Hiyaavehi,’ a dedicated home for the elderly in Addu City.
This announcement follows a Cabinet meeting where a proposal from the Ministry of Social and Family Development was reviewed and approved.
The establishment of ‘Isravvehinge Hiyaavehi’ aims to provide a supportive environment for elderly individuals who require state care in the absence of family support. The facility is designed to ensure residents can live their remaining years in comfort and contentment, offering high-quality services funded by the state budget.
In a related move, the government will introduce regulations enabling individuals who live with or care for seniors to earn points in new housing schemes.
This initiative is intended to promote family-based care for the elderly. Additionally, President Dr Muizzu has pledged to amend existing laws and regulations to enhance the protection of elderly rights.
