Muizzu Condemns Online Shaming

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has issued a statement advising against recording and publicly shaming individuals online.

In a post shared on his account on X, President Muizzu underscored the importance of adhering to moral and social standards when a crime has been committed.

He described resorting to videotaping and exploiting individuals who have erred as “morally and socially unacceptable.”

“The law provides clear guidelines on how to address individuals who have committed offences. It is imperative that we allow institutions and the legal system to carry out their duties without taking matters into our own hands,” stated President Muizzu. “Engaging in vigilantism and disregarding religious and social values only perpetuates a culture of vengeance, which we strive to eliminate from our society.”

The President’s remarks follows an incident in Male’ yesterday, where South Henveyru MP-elect Hussain Imran Latheef uploaded a video of an individual whose pickup truck had accidentally backed into the car of former Home Minister Sheikh Imrah Abdulla.
