Muizzu Proposes Amendment for 10-Storey Buildings in Villimale’

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu announced today that the proposed amendment to the building regulations, allowing for the construction of 10-storey buildings in Villimale’, has been submitted to Parliament.
Presently, the permissible height for buildings in Villimale’ stands at six stories. The proposed adjustment, if approved by Parliament, would permit the construction of structures with a maximum of 10 storeys on the island.
Reflecting on his previous mayoral term, Muizzu remarked on the challenges faced in implementing his intended initiatives for Male’ city. He highlighted efforts made during his two and a half years as mayor to push for the approval of 10-storey buildings in Villimale’.
Villimale’ saw an increase in building height from four to six storeys during the administration of former President Abdullah Yameen in 2015. The current proposal aims to further amend regulations, allowing for the construction of 10-storey buildings.
