In particular, the Nilandhoo Island Council stressed the paramount importance of the ongoing airport project, highlighting its potential to breathe new life into the island’s economic landscape. Urging for the expedited completion of the project, council members underscored the necessity of robust infrastructure, including the repair of the island’s sewerage system, prompt completion of the water supply network, construction of roads, and the establishment of an Islamic Centre to meet the community’s religious needs.

Furthermore, the council emphasized the critical need for housing units, a new building for the council office, improved healthcare facilities, and enhancements to the ferry system to bolster connectivity. Highlighting the significance of recreational spaces, they also advocated for the establishment of a park to enrich the island’s social fabric and foster its socio-economic growth.

Addressing a spectrum of concerns, the Atoll Council echoed similar sentiments, focusing on overarching developmental objectives and avenues for progress.

In response, President Dr. Muizzu reassured both councils of his commitment to addressing the issues raised during the meeting, according to the President’s Office.
