The National Awards Committee has announced that nominations for this year’s National Awards will open on Tuesday, April 23. The Committee has introduced two new award categories this year.
The first category seeks to acknowledge individuals and organisations that have shown exceptional commitment to fostering the elements and ideals of Maldivian nationhood, including efforts to uphold the values of the Islamic Maldivian identity and initiatives in nation-building, science, technology, arts, and culture.
The second category aims to highlight individuals who have provided exceptional, long-standing services across various fields of skill and competence. This expansion reflects the Committee’s commitment to recognising excellence across diverse domains.
The National Awards, which include the National Award of Honour and the National Award of Recognition, represent the highest recognition within the Maldivian community. Recipients of these awards will be presented with commemorative shields, badges, and certificates (for the National Award of Honour) or plaques and certificates (for the National Award of Recognition) by the President in a formal ceremony.
According to a press release shared by the President’s Office, this year’s National Awards ceremony will be part of the official festivities commemorating National Day. The event aims to showcase the awardees’ notable achievements and inspire others to strive for excellence.
As nominations open, individuals and organisations are encouraged to nominate deserving candidates who have positively impacted the Maldives’ social, cultural, and economic aspects.
