The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) has announced two significant updates to services under the Aasandha scheme.

From 15 January 2026, prescriptions obtained from registered optometrists or clinics will be covered under Aasandha, making it easier for patients to access prescription glasses. Previously, optometrist prescriptions accepted at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) and Hulhumalé Hospital were limited to those issued by the hospitals themselves.

In a statement yesterday, NSPA said clinics applying for empanelment under the Aasandha scheme will have their applications processed and approved by 31 January 2026, provided they submitted the required documents before 30 December.

The amendments aim to improve accessibility and streamline the process for both patients and healthcare providers.
