The Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure has announced that applicants for the government’s housing programmes may use a disability card issued by the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) to verify their condition.

The clarification applies under the government’s “Housing for All” policy, which allows persons with disabilities to apply under a separate category within the Family Housing programme. Applications for the scheme opened on 1 April and will close on 30 April.

The government had previously introduced a dedicated housing category for persons with disabilities, initially allowing applicants to indicate eligibility by selecting a single option on the application form. The programme was later revised in February to ease and refine the eligibility criteria.

Under the current rules, applicants must have lived in the Greater Malé area for at least five consecutive years to qualify. Additional factors considered in the assessment include financial circumstances, disability status, and recent medical treatment within the Greater Malé region.
