NSPA Disburses MVR 1.08m in Thalassemia Allowance to 541 Beneficiaries
The National Social Protection Agency (NSPA) spent MVR 1,082,000 on monthly Thalassaemia allowance payments in September, providing financial aid to 541 individuals across the country.
According to data released by the agency, financial assistance under the scheme was newly arranged for an additional six beneficiaries during the month.

The payout forms part of a dedicated welfare initiative introduced following a presidential campaign pledge to support individuals living with Thalassaemia and offer financial relief to affected families.
Under the established guidelines, registered patients receive a monthly stipend of MVR 2,000, disbursed by NSPA before the 10th of every month.
The regulations stipulate that allowance payments are discontinued under specific conditions, including a determination by the Thalassaemia Centre that a patient no longer requires treatment, a formal request by the recipient to withdraw from the scheme, or the death of the beneficiary.
The monthly allowance operates alongside broader state support for Thalassaemia treatment.
Earlier this year, the Maldives Zakat House transferred MVR 2.5 million from the Zakat Fund to NSPA to sponsor bone marrow transplant procedures for eligible patients.
The funding was facilitated under a Memorandum of Understanding signed between the Ministry of Islamic Affairs and the Ministry of Health on 21 February, establishing an annual mechanism to fund bone marrow transplants for patients in need of the procedure.
