The Ministry of Housing, Land, and Urban Development has disclosed that over 1,900 individuals who were granted land plots through the previous administration’s ‘Binveriya’ housing initiative on Giraavarufalhu have sought to transfer their allocations to Gulhifalhu.
Citing spatial constraints on Giraavarufalhu that impede the planned distribution of plots, the Housing Ministry initiated the option to switch plots to Gulhifalhu on April 7th.
In an official statement, the Ministry confirmed that 1,913 applicants had submitted requests for plot transfers by the application deadline.
Of these requests, 1,347 plots originally designated on Giraavaru will be relocated to Gulhifalhu. The breakdown of these plots includes:
- 193 plots measuring 1,250 square feet
- 663 plots measuring 1,650 square feet
- 487 plots measuring 2,050 square feet
- 4 plots measuring 2,450 square feet
Earlier statements from the Ministry indicated that the number of applicants seeking plot changes surpasses the total available plots allocated for Gulhifalhu. Consequently, a draw will be conducted to determine the beneficiaries.
Among the applicants, 928 individuals allocated plots measuring 1,250 square feet and 663 individuals with plots measuring 1,650 square feet from Giraavarufalhu have applied for the switch, necessitating a draw due to the surplus requests.
However, 213 individuals assigned plots measuring 2,050 square feet and three individuals assigned plots measuring 2,450 square feet from Giraavarufalhu have requested plot transfers within the available allocation.
Under the ‘Binveriya’ housing scheme introduced by the previous administration, a total of 9,003 plots were awarded to 18,955 eligible recipients during its initial phase. Land distributions are planned from Gulhifalhu, Giraavaru, and Hulhumale’ as part of the scheme.
