Over 4,000 Canned Tuna Cases Distributed in Greater Malé for Ramadan

Canned tuna distribution for Ramadan commences in Malé, over 4,000 cases handed out

The distribution of canned tuna for the upcoming month of Ramadan has begun in the greater Malé area, with over 4,000 cases issued yesterday.

According to the Ministry of Local Government, distribution centres in the capital issued 4,196 cases of canned tuna between 8:30 pm and 11:00 pm. The highest number of cases was distributed from Galolhu Stadium, which issued 783 cases.

This year, the government plans to distribute cases containing 48 cans of tuna to 118,773 households, including 61,755 households in Malé and 56,918 households in the atolls.

Distribution in the greater Malé area is taking place between 8:30 pm and 11:00 pm, with 300 tokens available from each centre daily via the Roadha Hadhiya portal. Fifteen distribution centres have been set up, eight in Malé City, six in Hulhumalé and one in Vilimalé.

The centres in Malé include the MIFCO complex in Maafannu, MTCC Sawmill, Henveiru Football Stadium, Galolhu Football Stadium (four centres) and the Social Centre. Centres in Hulhumalé include Mohamed Qasim Preschool, Umar Zahir Building in Phase I, POLCO Tower in Phase I, H10 in Phase II, Kaamil Didi School in Phase II, and MPL Tower P in Phase II. The Vilimalé centre is located at the WAMCO site.

Local Government Minister Adam Shareef Umar stated that the transport of tuna cases to the atolls is expected to conclude by the end of this week.

At the current market rate of MVR 760 per case, the government is distributing a total of MVR 90.4 million worth of tuna cases this year.
