Parliament Delays Recess, Extends Current Session Until Late August

The Parliament has postponed its scheduled recess for two weeks, extending the current session until 26 August. 

This decision was announced by Parliament Speaker Abdul Raheem Abdulla, who cited the need to address pressing legislative matters.

Speaker Abdulla stated that, according to parliamentary regulations, the last day of the extended session will be next Thursday. Following this extension, Parliament will take a recess and is expected to resume in October.

The motion to extend the session was unanimously approved by all 80 members present.

Among the key issues currently before Parliament are several important bills submitted by the government. These include the Debt Bill, the Fiscal Responsibility Bill, and a newly introduced Foreign Investment Bill. Additionally, a motion recommending the dismissal of Prosecutor General Hussain Shameem has also been submitted for consideration.
