The Parliament have passed a resolution urging the government to honour the list of beneficiaries selected under the Gedhoruveriyaa housing scheme without alterations to the list by the previous administration

The passage of the resolution follows a report presented to the Parliament floor by the Committee for National Development and Heritage, prompted by a citizen’s complaint on the matter. The report gained unanimous approval with 29 votes in favour during today’s session, with no opposing votes cast.

Highlighting public apprehensions over the delay in the distribution of flats designated under the housing scheme, the committee emphasised the need for prompt action.

Previously, the current administration had assured the public of its commitment to allocate the flats, stressing that it would not do anything to infringe on the rights of any citizen.

Today’s resolution called on the administration to adhere strictly to the officially gazetted list of beneficiaries for the housing scheme and expedite the distribution process without further delay.

The distribution of flats remains on hold pending an ongoing investigation by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) into the legitimacy of the beneficiary list. Earlier findings by the commission revealed that 59.6 per cent of the initially identified 4,000 recipients were deemed ineligible.
