Phase I-Phase II Link Road Now a One Way Street Following Rising Accidents

MV+ News Desk | February 19, 2026

The government has converted Kuredhimaa Hingun, the main link road between Phase I and Phase II, into a one‑way street.

The change has been introduced following a rise in traffic accidents in the area and forms part of ongoing efforts to improve road safety.

Under the new arrangement, vehicles will be allowed to travel only in the westbound direction, towards WAMCO at the junction of Fithuroanu Magu. The Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has stated that it is continuing to implement measures to make Hulhumale’s roads safer and reduce accidents.

Previously, HDC had installed roundabouts and small speed breakers to regulate traffic flow and encourage safer driving. Although the speed breakers were later removed, police noted that such measures are commonly used internationally and are effective when drivers reduce speed appropriately.

Authorities also reported that the earlier installation of speed bumpers on Hulhumale’s main road contributed to a decline in traffic accidents.
