Minister of Dhivehi Language, Culture and Heritage, Adam Naseer, announced that physical works on the Maldives interactive and immersive museum are scheduled to commence in January.
The Ministry contracted the state-owned Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation (FDC) in September to develop buildings that were once the residences of Maldivian sultans into an interactive and immersive museum. Minister Naseer confirmed that preparations for the project are well underway, with an agreement to begin physical works set to be signed in the first week of next month.
FDC has completed renderings of the museum, and the Ministry is in discussions with technical experts from China to secure technological support for the project. The overall value of the museum will be disclosed following the signing of the agreement with FDC. The Minister also stated that the museum will be given a name in the Dhivehi language.
Immersive and interactive museums use technology to create sensory-rich environments, allowing visitors to engage with exhibits through visuals, sounds, and sometimes scents, rather than simply viewing them. The Maldives plans to develop such museums at historical sites including Usgekolhu and Kalhu Vakaru Miskiyy, enabling visitors to experience the nation’s history in new ways.
