Police and Correctional Service Complete Nationwide Prison Security Operation

The Maldives Police Service and the Maldives Correctional Service have completed a three-week joint operation aimed at strengthening security across prison facilities in the Maldives.

The operation was carried out in four phases from 22 June to 13 July and covered Malé, Hulhumalé, Kaafu Maafushi and Himmafushi. It was overseen by Specialist Operations and led by Superintendent of Police Ishaq Adam.

According to police, the operation involved multiple specialised units, including the Specialist Operations SWAT team and canine unit, Malé Police, Hulhumalé Police, the Drug Enforcement Department and Marine Police. Officers carried out extensive searches inside prison facilities and surrounding areas.

Police said teams from protective security, media, intelligence, forensics, major crime investigation, and family and child protection also provided support throughout the operation.

The Maldives Correctional Service described the operation as one of the most comprehensive joint prison security operations conducted to date. It said the coordinated effort enabled thorough inspections and strengthened monitoring mechanisms within correctional facilities.

Superintendent Ishaq said the operation achieved its objectives through close cooperation between the participating agencies. He added that the combined expertise of police officers and correctional staff contributed to the successful completion of the operation.
