According to the Police, the operation, which was led by Immigration officials, aimed to identify and address the presence of undocumented migrants in these areas. All 50 individuals identified during the operation have now been handed over to the custody of Maldives Immigration.

Home Minister Ali Ihusan has stated that the issue of undocumented migrants will be resolved within three years under the newly launched ‘Operation Kurangi’. He emphasised that the objective is not to arrest and deport migrants, but rather to provide them with an opportunity to regularise their status.

In a related development, the Maldives has recently suspended the recruitment of unskilled labourers from Bangladesh. This decision follows concerns over illegal recruitment practices involving the submission of counterfeit documents.
