Police Question Nearly 4,000 Individuals, 29 Arrests Made During Operation Riveli

The Maldives Police Service (MPS) has reported that a total of 3,986 individuals were stopped and questioned, with 29 arrests made during Operation Riveli.

Between 24 and 28 December, police in Male’ City stopped and questioned 1,693 people, resulting in 26 arrests. In Hulhumale’, 2,293 individuals were questioned and three arrests were made. Of those questioned, 95 were foreigners in Male’ and 46 in Hulhumale’.

During the operation, officers searched 6,491 locations across Male’ and inspected 1,954 vehicles, issuing 397 fines. In Hulhumale’, 1,879 vehicles were checked and 28 fines were issued.

Operation Riveli, conducted as part of New Year’s Eve security measures, aims to prevent theft and robbery, monitor alcohol and drug-related offences, address the use of modified silencers and reckless driving, and enforce general social norms.
