The Maldives Police Service has reported a significant increase in the towing of illegally parked vehicles, with 40 vehicles towed in Male’ City last night alone.

In a statement released yesterday, the police confirmed that they had towed a total of 40 illegally parked vehicles, with 15 of them being removed from Ameenee Magu.

This surge follows a promise made by the current administration, led by President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, that authorities would refrain from imposing fines on vehicles without providing adequate parking spaces. However, despite this commitment, illegal parking has seen a sharp rise across Male’ City.

Responding to growing public complaints about the issue, the police announced earlier this month that they would commence towing illegally parked vehicles from March 3rd onwards. The enforcement efforts officially began on March 5th.
