The Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) conducts annual monitoring to review the records and achievements of political parties, the Commission has said.
ECM Chairperson Fuad Thaufeeq stated yesterday that a team from the ECM conducts annual visits to the offices of political parties to review their work.

This statement followed questions raised on social media regarding the recent disbursement of annual funds to political parties from the state budget
As reported by the ECM, over MVR 44 million was distributed to six political parties before the end of May. According to regulations, only political parties with a membership exceeding 10,000 are eligible to receive state funds. Currently, six parties meet this criterion.
The main opposition party, the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), received the highest allocation, amounting to MVR 15.1 million, as it maintained its status as the largest political party in the Maldives.
The Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM), in coalition with the ruling party, received MVR 10.4 million, while the ruling People’s National Congress (PNC) was allocated MVR 8 million.
The Jumhooree Party (JP), led by prominent businessman Gasim Ibrahim, received MVR 5.3 million. The religious conservative Adhaalath Party was given MVR 2.5 million, and the Maldives Development Alliance (MDA), led by tourism tycoon Ahmed ‘Sun’ Siyam Mohamed, received MVR 2.4 million.
