A senior public servant, Dr Rameela has extensive experience in government. She previously served as the first Minister of Agriculture and Animal Welfare under the current administration before resigning in December 2024 for health reasons.

The Human Rights Commission of the Maldives comprises five members. Alongside Dr Rameela, the commission includes Vice-President Mohamed Shafeeq Mahmood and members Samaau Ahmed Najeeb, Ismail Habeeb, and Ahmed Maqsoom.
