President Engages F. Atoll Councils to Advance Development Agenda

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu recently convened with Island Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC) members from various islands in the F. Atoll to discuss key development initiatives aimed at addressing pressing community needs.

F. Feeali Island

The meeting on F. Feeali Island, held at the Feeali Council’s Secretariat, focused on a range of crucial issues identified by the Council. Among these were the urgency of completing land reclamation efforts, expediting the construction of a new health centre, resolving housing shortages, addressing school space limitations, and initiating the construction of a new mosque. Additionally, enhancing the power plant’s capacity and ensuring sufficient ice plant services were highlighted as priorities. The Council also stressed the importance of improving local infrastructure, including the office structure and ferry services.

In response to these concerns, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu affirmed the government’s commitment to fulfilling the island’s development aspirations, noting that ongoing projects aligned with the community’s preferences and needs.

F. Magoodhoo Island

A similar dialogue took place on F. Magoodhoo Island, where discussions centred on the delayed construction of the Magoodhoo Airport, the urgent need for a multipurpose hall and science lab at the local school, upgrades to the football field, and the construction of a new council administration office. The Women’s Development Committee also voiced their challenges, particularly regarding budget constraints.

President Muizzu reassured the Magoodhoo Council and WDC members of the government’s dedication to advancing development projects, promising continued support and timely completion of initiatives such as the Magoodhoo Airport.

F. Dharan’boodhoo Island
Lastly, on F. Dharan’boodhoo Island, Council members highlighted the importance of coastline protection, facilitating housing loans, completing infrastructure projects, and addressing healthcare needs. The WDC sought assistance in improving their workspace to enhance productivity.

In his remarks, President Muizzu outlined forthcoming projects, including the establishment of a youth centre, a volleyball court, and upgrades to the football stadium, underscoring the administration’s broader commitment to community development.

Throughout these engagements, President Dr Mohamed Muizzu reiterated the government’s responsiveness to local needs and its determination to collaborate closely with island authorities to realise shared development goals.
