Strengthening Vocational Education with ITE

On Tuesday, President Muizzu and First Lady Madam Sajidha Mohamed visited the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) Headquarters and ITE College Central. Dr Goh Mong Song, Deputy CEO of ITE, welcomed the delegation.

The visit followed the signing of a memorandum of understanding between ITE and the Ministry of Higher Education, Labour and Skills Development. The agreement establishes cooperation in higher education, vocational training, education policy, and research.

ITE representatives highlighted their focus on blending technical proficiency with soft skills, with curricula developed in consultation with industry experts. President Muizzu thanked ITE for its commitment to providing vocational education tailored to national needs. The delegation toured several key training hubs, including the User Experience Hub at the School of Design and Media, InvITE at the School of Business Services, and the Aerospace Hub at the School of Engineering.

Urban Planning Insights from Urban Redevelopment Authority

As part of his state visit, President Muizzu also toured Singapore’s Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA). He was received by Adele Tan Shiao Ling, URA’s Deputy CEO and Chief Planner, and Sia Tze Ming from the Housing and Development Board.

During a detailed briefing, the President learned about Singapore’s long-term polycentric urban planning model, designed to create a sustainable, inclusive, and liveable city. Topics covered included climate-resilient infrastructure, public participation in planning, and affordable housing delivery.

Following a question and answer session, the delegation visited the Singapore City Gallery, where they explored how URA has addressed urban planning challenges over the years. URA, a globally recognised authority, leads Singapore’s land use planning, conservation efforts, and public land sales.
